First to board to US!

Tomorrow, the teachers Luiz Gustavo Gavião and Gustavo de Paula are already boarding to travel to the United States. They are going to Deerfield Academy, Massachusetts, to represent our school philosophy there and to be open to know a lot to bring to our school, as Deerfield is considered one of the most traditional academys in the US. The school was founded in 1797, and shares very common values to SESC High School:

"Tradition is a living process at Deerfield. The style, tone and character of the Academy are shaped in large part by its traditions. Certain habits of the community--songs, cheers, stories of the village and the school, family style meals, school meetings--are important reminders of the value of things that have been passed on to each new generation of students. Still, the importance of balancing tradition with the Academy's central task is recognized: addressing the collective and individual needs of young people at a critical period in their development and growth."

Surely this is the beginning of the ties of friendship, cooperation and sharing between SESC High School and Deerfield Academy. The US and Brazil will be nearer, and we all hope both teachers have an excellent time there. This exchange program should be the first of many. What makes it so important is the fact that it is a single opportunity to talk about different points of view corcening the project of a boarding school, its best moments and experiences as well as what requires more attention by the teachers. In short, it means great enrichment and sharing of cultures for both sides.

We, students and teachers of SESC High School community wish them all the best and an excellent trip. The next exchange group is visiting Riverstone International School and leaves in a week. We are looking forward to also be travelling to the US. There is much work to do and we are already preparing ourselves. Here in Rio we are finishing our presentations about our boarding school and our country, thrilling to show them to you all.

A bit nervous Gerald!
