A bit about Rio de Janeiro!

Hello everybody! I was just wondering these days that Riverstone students, as well as all the other international visitors, must be thrilling to see and know more about the city of Rio de Janeiro and Brazil. Thinking on this, I've selected some very special photographs of this incredible and unique place.

Rio de Janeiro was the capital of the Portuguese Colony of Brazil from 1763 to 1806, capital of the United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil and the Algarves from 1806 to 1822, and capital of independent Brazil from 1822 to 1960, when Brasília became the new Brazilian capital.

It's the second largest city of Brazil, with over 12 million inhabitants.

Ipanema, considered one of the best beaches of Rio de Janeiro. Young people like coming to this beach.
The waves sidewalk of Copacabana Beach, world known.
The statue of Christ the Redeemer, which lays on the the top of the Corcovado Hill.
Of the the seven wonders of the modern world

Ipanema and Leblon's crowdy beaches

The Botanical Garden, created in 1808, when the Portuguese Royal Family came to Brazil. They intended to make Rio de Janeiro an European city, so they invest in many improvements to the once small town of Rio.
Christ and the Lake Rodrigo de Freitas, South Zone of Rio.
Sugar Loaf

Getting to know: SESC High School

International visitors,
here you will be able to know more about our boarding school in Rio de Janeiro. Its project is based on the pillars of serving leadership, academic excellence, critical thinking, creativity and acceptance of and respect to differences. Supported by the Commerce Social Service (SESC), the school opened in 2008 and already has a lot of work to show.
Every year the school offers a certain number of scholarships to each state of Brazil, guaranteeing the representativeness of all the corners of the country. Surely its students who will travel to the United States will take the feeling of this unique and so special project.
